Craddick Appoints Darby to the Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Appraisal Reform
(Austin) - Speaker Tom Craddick (R - Midland), today, appointed Rep. Drew Darby (R -San Angelo) to the Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Appraisal Reform, which will oversee all matters relating to property tax relief and reforming the property appraisal system.
"As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, and as the chair of budget and oversight for the House Business and Industry Committee, Rep. Darby has firsthand experience with fiscal matters and the impact of taxes on businesses," Speaker Craddick said. "He will be a valued member of this committee."
The committee will review the sections of the Texas Constitution and the tax code that limit or authorize limiting the appraised value or increases in the appraised value of property for tax purposes. It may request assistance from any executive branch agency, and it will issue a report to the House of Representatives before the 81st Legislative Session, which may include draft legislation or recommendations for legislation.
As Texas moves forward we need to ensure that our tax laws keep pace with the divergent economy," Representative Darby said. "I am honored that Speaker Craddick appointed me to this important committee and am eager to find solutions to the property tax dilemmas."
Rep. Darby is serving his first term as the state representative for House District 72. He also serves on the House Administration Committee.
